THREE FOR ME PROGRAM We are very excited to continue our “Three for Me Program”. This is a PTA sponsored program that recognizes the efforts of our volunteers. As three hours of volunteering are completed, your name will be put on the MPR window as one of our “Shining Stars” and your child’s name will be featured in the monthly newsletter (each child will only be listed once). These hours can be completed many different ways: helping in the classroom, taking home projects from teachers, copying, helping with guided reading or other school programs, assisting with PTA events, baking for hospitality and so much more. All you have to do is volunteer three hours and make sure you sign in and out in the volunteer book located in the front office. Thank you for all of your help in making Schroeder the absolute Best! |

Cartridges 4 Kids!
Cartridges for Kids is a year-round recycling program that pays Schroeder CA$H for empty inkjet, laser cartridges, used cell phones, laptops, PDA's, iPods, DVD's, Digital Cameras, Video Games and Consoles! The collection box is located in the office. It's easy to turn your trash into CA$H! PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE - MRS. BRECKENRIDGE
State Testing: May 7 – 18, 2012 This year our 2nd – 6th grade students will be taking California Standards Tests from May 7th through May 18th. During those two weeks, 22nd,3rd and 5th grade students will have 6 days of testing, while 4th and 6th grade will have 4 days of testing. All students are tested in Language Arts and Mathematics. Fifth grade students are also tested in science. Tests begin first thing in the morning and usually last until recess. It is very important that students arrive on time, everyday. Here are four ways to help your child be successful. 1. Explain that the tests will show how much he has learned. Encourage him to try his best, but don’t put too much emphasis on them that he feels stressed. 2. Practice the test format. For example, your child might have to read a paragraph and answer questions. Using one of his textbooks, have him look at the questions at the end of the section first and then read the passage. That will help him know what to read for and how to find the answers. 3. Limit activities the night before tests. You may want to avoid having guests for dinner or skip his brother’s baseball game if it means being out late. Be sure your child gets to bed on time and sets an alarm for the next morning. 4. On test day, give him an energy boosting breakfast. Try to include both protein (eggs, yogurt, milk) and carbohydrates (fruit, oatmeal, toast).
